LA-Based Afropop Duo itsENJ Unveil Joyful New EP ‘Añurika’

Just two months after their Dappa Way EP, Los Angeles-based Nigerian-American duo itsENJ is back with a new release. Their latest EP, Añurika, translates to “joy is greater” and features five vibrant tracks. This project celebrates their African heritage and aims to connect with the global diaspora through music.

A Fresh Take on Afropop

Añurika was recorded in Lagos earlier this year, capturing the energy of the city. The EP blends afrobeats, hip-hop, disco, and dancehall with traditional Igbo sounds. Produced by itsENJ along with ElvisBeatz and Mykah, the music offers a unique mix of genres and cultural influences.

The EP starts with “Enjoy Life,” which encourages listeners to live boldly and find joy in everyday moments. It then transitions to “Napukenda,” a love song that means “I love you” in Swahili. Next, “Where You Dey” explores feelings of despair and the search for faith. The track “Ego” celebrates Igbo traditions and the joy of hard work. Finally, the EP ends with “On God,” an anthem about overcoming challenges and having faith.

Connecting with Nigerian Roots

The duo explains their inspiration: “Growing up in the United States, we wanted to reconnect with our Nigerian roots. This journey led us to embrace African music and our Igbo heritage. Añurika represents joy, love, and unity. It’s an invitation to join us in this musical journey.”

itsENJ: Blending Cultures and Sounds

Chimdi and Otito, the duo behind itsENJ, blend their Nigerian roots with American influences. Raised in Enugu and New York City, their music reflects a mix of African, Caribbean, and Hispanic influences. Now based in LA, they continue to innovate and resonate with fans worldwide.

Their breakout single, “PFI (Pray For It)” featuring CKay, and their debut EP Born On The Moon helped them gain recognition. With Añurika, itsENJ further establishes themselves in the afropop scene, infusing their music with joy and purpose.
