Taylor Swift made history at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday night, February 4, 2024, by becoming the first singer to win four Album of the Year accolades. The pop artist won the prized award for her album Midnights, which was released in October 2022.

Swift, was nominated for six Grammys this year and defeated other nominees Jon Batiste, Boy Genius, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey, Janelle Monáe, Olivia Rodrigo, and SZA. She received the prize from famous singer Celine Dion, who lauded Swift’s “incredible talent and creativity.”

Swift expressed gratitude for the support of her fans, collaborators, and friends during her speech. She also emphasized her admiration for the music industry and her enthusiasm for songwriting.

“For me, the award is the labor. I just want to keep being able to do this. I just adore it. It makes me pleased. It amazes me that some of the people who voted for this honor are also delighted,” she stated.

Swift also teased the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, which will be available for streaming on April 19. She explained that the album was inspired by “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”

Midnights is Swift’s fourth album to win the Album of the Year Grammy, following Fearless (2010), 1989 (2016), and Folklore 2021. She is the only musician to have accomplished this feat, beating previous record holders Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon, and Stevie Wonder, each of whom won three times.

Swift also received the Best Pop Vocal Album award for Midnights earlier in the evening, raising her total number of Grammys to 16. She played a mix of songs from the album, including “Cardigan,” “August,” and “Willow,” on a fanciful forest-themed stage.

The 2024 Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, honored the best of music from the previous year. Billie Eilish, Bruno Mars, Anderson.Paak, BTS, Harry Styles, and other artists performed at the show. The concert also honored the late rapper DMX, who died in April 2021.
