Apple Unveils New Sport App
Apple has unveiled “Apple Sports”, a new app for sports lovers, offering real-time scores, statistics, and more.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services, expressed the company’s objective with Apple Sports, to meet the demands of sports lovers by creating a platform that swiftly delivers scores and stats. The app is offered free of charge, emphasizing accessibility and convenience for users to stay abreast of their beloved teams and leagues.
Currently, Apple Sports covers several prominent leagues in season, including MLS, NBA, NCAA basketball (men’s and women’s), NHL, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Ligue 1, Premier League, and Serie A. Additionally, Apple plans to expand its coverage, incorporating more leagues such as MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA for their upcoming seasons.
Apple Sports app is for fans to remain updated on their favorite teams and leagues. Users can personalize their dashboards by following specific teams, tournaments, and leagues.
In recent years, Apple has expanded its presence in the sports industry by acquiring broadcasting rights for Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer matches. Apple competed for National Football League broadcasting rights last year but lost to YouTube. It is anticipated to actively participate in future negotiations for National Basketball Association rights.
Additionally, it has enhanced its News app with more sports journalism content and sports-related documentaries featuring teams like the Golden State Warriors and the New England Patriots on Apple TV+.
Furthermore, users can easily transition to the Apple TV app to watch live games via Apple and connected streaming services. Apple Sports blends smoothly with the My Sports feature, synchronizing favorites across platforms, including the Apple TV app and Apple News.
Apple Sports is immediately downloadable in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada, supporting English, French, and Spanish languages where available. Compatible with all iPhone models running iOS 17.2 or later. The app, which is not included by default on iPhones, will be closely linked with Apple’s other services apps, including the TV and News apps, and will also be accessible to a wide range of users at no cost.
