MTV VMAs 2022: Taylor Swift Wins Video of the Year

The MTV VMAs 2022 took place on Sunday, August 28th

The famed award show took place last weekend and saw Taylor Swift take home the Video of the Year Award. She won it for a 10-minute rendition of her 2012 song ‘All Too Well’ and took the chance to announce a new album coming in October. Watch the video of Taylor winning the award here.

All Too Well is one of Swift’s re-recorded hits after a misunderstanding with her past record label.

Once she got on stage, Taylor thanked her fans.“We wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it weren’t for you, the fans.” She said before she revealed that she’ll release her next album on October 21. The record will be called Midnights, and it’ll tell the stories of 13 nights scattered throughout Taylor’s life.

In the same celebration, Puerto Rican trap singer Bad bunny was named artist of the year. He was given the Moon Person statue at New York’s Yankee Stadium, where he was performing another of his “World’s Hottest Tour” shows.

Former Disney Channel star Dove Cameron was named best artist. She dedicated her award to “all the queer kids out there” to widespread support from the audience.

Harry Styles received the album of the year trophy for “Harry’s House”, though he accepted the award via video. He was set to perform in Madison Square Garden when he received the trophy.

Other mega-stars invited but not in attendance at the Vas included Drake, Ed Sheehan, Due Lipa, Adele, and Kendrick Lamar, despite nominations.

The Global Icon Award was presented to Los Angeles funk-rock superstars Red Hot Chili Peppers, who in turn dedicated the award to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Hawkins passed away earlier this year. The Foo Fighters won the same award in 2021.

Nicki Minaj was also honored with the Video Vanguard award for her career of hits. She performed a medley of ‘Anaconda’ and ‘Super Bass’ and paid tribute to artists who inspired her, including Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. “I wish that people understood what they meant, what they were going through (and) took mental health seriously,” she said.

Snoop Dogg and Eminem fulfilled their promises of performing live and in the Metaverse. They rapped ‘From the D2 the LBC’, and presented animated images inside The Otherside, the Metaverse platform by Yuga Labs.
