Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis have been in the spotlight for two reasons this past week.
With the release of And Just Like That, the stars have shown how to navigate life at 50 in a world which is far different from the 2000s landscape the original show followed.
However, they’ve also been in the news for supporting allegations against fellow actor Chris Noth. Noth, who plays Mr Big – the love interest of Carrie Bradshaw in the TV show Sex and the City, and in the And Just Like That reprisal – has been accused of sexual assault of two women in separate incidents in 2004 and 2015.
Noth, who also plays Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order, has appeared in the newly released And Just Like That, before the accusations were announced.
The Hollywood Reporter has said that Chris Noth has been accused by two women, whose identities are used pseudonyms as opposed to actual identities. Lily, who is 31, said that seeing Noth reprise his role in And Just Like That was what pushed her to report, saying she had met him in an NYC nightclub, where she worked as a waitress, then went on a date with him, and was later raped in his apartment.
The second source is Zoe, who was invited to his pool at an apartment building and also was sexually assaulted against her will. Neither encounter was reported to the police at the time.
The Sex and the City stars have spoken out about their long-time co-star’s accusations, sharing support and sympathy for those who have accused him.
“We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth. We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it,” the three actors said in a shared statement posted on Nixon and Parker’s Instagram accounts.
The statement coincides with US network CBS and production company Universal Television have confirmed that Noth has been removed from his current show, The Equalizer.
“Chris Noth will no longer film additional episodes of The Equalizer, effective immediately,” the two companies announced in a brief statement to CNN on Monday the 20th of December. The show, which also stars Queen Latifah, portrays Noth as former CIA director William Bishop; he will be seen in the episodes already filmed.
The actor has also been dropped by his agency this week since the allegations have been announced.
