Sledgehammer Games, the Activision-owned game development studio, formally set forth the next Call of Duty with the reveal of Vanguard. November being the launch month for the game.

Vanguard, like Call of Duty: WWII, takes place during World War II. Unlike WWII, which focused on European combat, Vanguard dives into battles in the Pacific Front, in North Africa, and elsewhere.

The Call of Duty: Vanguard PlayStation alpha will run from August 27, 2021, at 10 a.m. PT, to August 29, 2021. Champion Hill, a whole new game mode, will be featured in the alpha. Some will want to start playing the moment the alpha opens, so preloading will be important.

COD: VANGUARD STORY

The plot revolves around four soldiers from various backgrounds who were chosen to be among the first special soldiers.

The developers of Sledgehammer are bringing us back to World War II with a single-player campaign that focuses on the creation of these special forces, the warriors that led the strategy and held their ground in Stalingrad against the German inbound soldiers.

We see the aftermath of combat on the Western Front in the first portion of the trailer. A name tag for Sargent Kingsley, one of the playable characters in Vanguard, was left behind in the aftermath.

On the Eastern Front, we see a sniper’s bunker with an engraved weapon bearing the name “Petrova” engraved on the body. Nina Petrova’s model can be found following a Warzone victory, this is most likely a reference to her.

Right after, we see a tank left destroyed in North Africa with artillery shells lying on the ground. All four soldiers are shown fighting together towards the end.

MULTIPLAYER MODE

Another new addition in “Vanguard” is a multiplayer mode called Champion Hill, in which eight teams compete against each other in a free-for-all-style tournament.

The developers defined the game as a mix of battle royale and the 2v2 Gunfight mode launched with 2019’s “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare,” promising further details in the coming weeks.

An arena consisting of four maps will allow players to queue as solos, duos, or trios, making it quick yet fun.

Players can also become the original special forces operators in multiplayer games. Vanguard pushed the action in the first crossover of franchise zombies. You’ll take on the role of one of four soldiers from around the world who have earned their way into the special forces.

KEY DATES FOR VANGUARD BETA

The public beta appears to last from September 16-20. There may be a separate trial period before this, but it will be exclusive to PlayStation.

The latest information from Tom Henderson details the key dates for Vanguard, including the open beta period which is available on all platforms.

The point to be noted here is that Activision has not officially confirmed the beta release yet, though it would be unusual for a Call of Duty game not to have an open beta at some point in time.

CONCLUSION

The graphics, sound of shooting, the appearance of the characters, and the environment raise the bar on realism. The game does not look like it will stand out from the prior year’s releases but perhaps Champion Hill will introduce a new kind of competitive grist.

So far, that’s all we know about Call of Duty Vanguard. Vanguard is likely going to thoroughly change the way Warzone is played– appreciate ‘80s Verdansk while the changes aren’t implemented.
